In this website you will able to find information about us, our projects, activities and our engagements with the community in Newport.
“Building up a caring community”
- Locally, through individuals and group activities
- Nationally, through networking with other churches and organisations
- Globally, through contacts with people in other countries.
Who is it for ?
Everybody is welcome to Community House, whatever their age, faith or background.
Among the groups who meet at present are:
- A multicultural playgroup for young children.
- Youth clubs.
- Tuesday Lunch Club for the elderly, sometimes joined by Young Citizens from Maindee Primary School.
- A club for the visually impaired.
- Ashianna, a club with courses and information for Asian ladies.
- ESOL classes and a Talk Club for people learning English.
- Classes run by organisations such as WEA and University College of Wales, Newport.
- Dads’r’Us where fathers can spend time with their children.
- Christian Worship Services on Sundays:
– Presbyterian Church meets 11.00am except 2nd Sunday of the month at 3.00pm.
– Church of God of Prophecy meets 12.30 - 2.30pm.
– Conqueror’s Assembly meets at 3.00pm except 2nd Sunday of the month at 10.00am.
– Also midday service on Tuesdays.
How does it work?
Community House provides opportunities:
- For groups to meet to cater for the needs of people of all ages, regardless of faith.
- For groups and individuals to pray, meditate or just relax and be quiet in the Chapel or the Peace Garden.
- To develop new and innovative forms of Christian worship.
- To focus on issues of peace and justice and inter-faith understanding in a friendly and non threatening environment by:
– Meeting together
– Exploring ways of meeting particular concerns
– Supporting and encouraging people in marginalized situations.
The building is owned by the Presbyterian Church of Wales with the Church Elders as the Managing Trustees.
The building is managed and organized in partnership with users, Newport City Council and representatives of the local community.
